Bear spotted near Valley Green Inn

Bear spotted near Valley Green Inn”

"This is a rare and wonderful wildlife sighting, as black bears have not been sighted in the Wissahickon in recent memory".

A black bear was spotted in a Philadelphia park on Friday morning.

The sighting Friday placed the bear in the creek near Valley Green Inn, one of the park's most populated areas. Wildlife officials think that it is possible that this was the bear seen in the Park on Friday. Carson told us the bear went past Devil's Pool, crossed the creek, then disappeared on the Chestnut Hill side.

Maura McCarthy, Executive Director of Friends of the Wissahicon says it's not an everyday site and this is a good size animal. "We don't have any additional information about the bear's whereabouts and are grateful that the bear's visit to the park caused no harm to park users".

Friends of the Wissahickon advises hikers to use caution and to be aware of their surroundings.
