Blue Angel crashes during airshow practice”

The pilot, Marine Captain Jeff Kuss, was killed when his F/A-18 fighter jet crashed while the Blue Angels were practicing ahead of two weekend performances.

Rebecca Durand was in her auto with her son Jordan when they saw the jet go down.

Kuss, who died Thursday during training runs for an air show, trained at the naval bases in Corpus Christi and Kingsville before being selected to join the Blue Angels in 2014.

The Great Tennessee Airshow, which was to feature the Blue Angels, will continue this weekend with a roster of civilian pilots.

"The Navy and Marine Corps aviation team are grieving the loss of one of our own", said Vice Adm. Mike Shoemaker, commander, Naval Air Forces, in a June the 3d release. At the same time, the loss of an American life in support of US military entertainment or advertising - whichever description of the objective of the flyover is chosen - is very hard to justify.

The Canadian Forces Snowbirds also posted a statement on their Facebook page, saying: "Our hearts go out to the men and women of the United States Air Force Thunderbirds and United States Navy Blue Angels".

It was the second fighter jet crash of the day for the military's elite fighter jet performance teams.

WTVF reports Kuss was married with two small children.
