Did 'Finding Dory' mock autism with Gerald the sea lion?

You've probably heard by now that Finding Dory made waves this past weekend, breaking all kinds of records. Some 13 years after Finding Nemo first hit theaters, Pixar and Disney's sequel Finding Dory made a huge splash at the box office, landing the biggest domestic opening of all time for an animated title with $136.2 million from 4,305 theaters.

Overseas, Finding Dory added another $US50 million to its haul from 29 global markets, including Australia, Argentina, Russia and China, where its $17.5 million debut ranks as the biggest ever for a Pixar release.

The Disney-Pixar sequel, released 13 years after Finding Nemo, also recorded the second largest June opening of all time, after Jurassic World took in $208 million upon release last year.

Overseas, "Finding Dory" grossed $50 million after opening in about 32% of the worldwide marketplace, reports WSJ, with China leading the way with a $17.5 million opening. The Saving Nemo Conservation Fund proclaims on its website that over 1 million clownfish are taken from reefs and brought to aquarium's each year, which adversely affects the population.

Disney-Pixar's Finding Dory made a whopping $136.2 million during its opening weekend, setting a box-office record for an animated film.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at USA and Canadian theaters, according to comScore.

"Finding Nemo" raked in an estimated total of $340 million and remains to be one of Pixar's most loved movies of all time.
