Gunman who killed singer Christina Grimmie travelled to concert to attack her”

Singer Christina Grimmie, 22, a former star of "The Voice" and a YouTube sensation, was shot Friday night as she signed autographs for fans at a merchandise table in The Plaza Live concert venue in Orlando, Florida.

As reported by the Orlando Sentinel, investigators have been looking into Loibl's computer, cellphone, and other belongings, trying to find a possible motive for the crime but say there is no evidence that Christina and the shooter knew each other.

Her brother Marcus tackled Loibl, who shot himself dead in the scuffle, local police said.

Police have identified Grimmie's alleged killer as 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl.

Her death was confirmed in a statement from her representative, which read: "It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord". However, Mina told reporters that so far there was no indication that the gunman and Grimmie knew each other.

He continued: "But please if you are reading this far, I would love all and any of you to post pics of you and her and/or memories you have of her down in the comments".

Adam Levine, Grimmie's ex-mentor on the show, wrote on Facebook: "(Levine's wife) Behati (Prinsloo) and I are absolutely devastated and heartbroken by Christina Grimmie's tragic death". Her online following opened up a number of opportunities for the young singer, including appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and a stint opening for Selena Gomez on tour. The police chief said the theater's security guards search bags of concertgoers when they arrive, but do not use a metal detector.

The Plaza Live Venue posted a notice following the shooting offering their thoughts and prayers to Grimmie's family and announcing the suspension of forthcoming events.

Grimmie first came to prominence as a teenager for her renditions of hit songs, amassing a huge following on YouTube.

"A few minutes later, people were just running out and this one girl comes and cries on the floor", she said.

In 2014, she was a contestant on US TV programme The Voice.
