Matt LeBlanc "Will Leave Top Gear" If Chris Evans Stays

Matt LeBlanc

June the 26th, 2016 by Matt LeBlanc is allegedly planning to quit the motor show Top Gear if his co-host Chris Evans isn't let go first.

Bookmakers have taken odds on whether both the show and Evans will survive, with Betway recently quoting odds of 5/4 for the BBC axing the show at the end of the first series and odds of 2/1 on the chances of co-host Matt LeBlanc returning.

The ultimatum has reportedly sent shockwaves through the BBC, which was already reeling from a slump in ratings since the departure of former host Jeremy Clarkson and his team of Richard Hammond and James May, along with executive producer Andy Wilman.

A source told the paper: "The big question now is who goes and who stays".

Now a source close to Top Gear has claimed: 'This has become a romance.

The insider adds that the pair's close relationship is proof of how popular the U.S. star is with the Top Gear crew, following reports over the weekend of a frosty atmosphere on set between host Chris Evans and the rest of the team. Matt's indicated he won't continue on any further series if Chris remains. Evans is also, apparently, jealous of the praise given to Rory Reid and Chris Harris since the show began and doesn't help anyone new to studio recording.

A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: "Chris is not encouraging when any of the others are doing their links".

LeBlanc's been open about the fact that he took Top Gear because he needed a job, however, it may be proving too much hassle for the former Friends star.

"On one occasion this month he even pretended to bump his head against a wall in frustration when Eddie Jordan kept fluffing his lines".

The most recent episode got the worst ratings in show history, dropping to 2.34 million viewers from 4.3 million for the premiere.

Matt's representatives told The Sun that nothing had been "discussed or decided" regarding the rumors, while the BBC refused to comment on the reports.
