'Voice' singer Christina Grimmie shot, killed following concert in Orlando

The Voice Season 6 contestant Christina Grimmie performing as part of The Voice Tour in 2014.

Grimmie was signing autographs for fans after the show at The Plaza Live late Friday, according to a statement from Orlando police. That victim, singer Christina Grimmie, was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.

"Christina was a natural, gifted talent that comes along so rarely", wrote singer Adam Levine, who was Grimmie's mentor on "The Voice".

She was discovered on YouTube, where she amassed more than 3 million followers.

Police Chief John Mina says that investigators are going through the Loibl's computer, phone, and other belongings to identify any motive.

Rivera says she then turned back around to Grimmie and saw her lying on the ground and other fans running.

Local police told WKMG-TV that the assailant was then tackled by Grimmie's brother before turning the gun on himself, and was declared dead at the scene.

He said: "Very heroic actions by Marcus to jump in, and, definitely, could have prevented further loss of life".

Christina Grimmie, 22-year-old New Jersey native, was shot to death by a male gunman after giving a concert in Orlando on Friday night.

"For those of you who have not heard, I had the unfortunate tragedy of witnessing all of the events that occurred last night at The Plaza Live", Rivera wrote.

She explained: "During the struggle, the suspect shot himself".

"Everyone is just running all over the place", said the teenager, who travelled to the concert from Brunswick, Georgia.

"One thing about Christina and her family is that she holds her faith so closely to her", Gomez said to the crowd. The police chief wouldn't elaborate further.

Christina Grimmie's last Facebook post a few hours before she was fatally shot showed a smiling upbeat young woman asking people to attend her concert. "We are all praying hard that you can pull through this. this just isn't fair". "Lovely member of "The Voice family" and a true fighter".

Meanwhile, Selena's stepfather Brian Teefey, who was also Christina's manager, earlier spoke about his heartbreak on hearing the tragic news.
