Chelsea boss offers Diego Costa update amid squad size concerns”

Gary Cahill admits Diego Costa will be a 'big miss' for Chelsea and is hopeful Antonio Conte will bolster their current squad before the transfer deadline.

Chelsea striker Diego Costa appears to have burnt his bridges with Antonio Conte and the Chelsea hierarchy.

Costa is currently in Brazil having taken no part in pre-season training.

It seems Diego Costa is looking to join the circus if a video making rounds on social media is to be believed.

Talking to the official Chelsea website in the wake of Chelsea's shoot-out defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, the Blues captain explained why the 24-year-old forward has been able to adapt to life in England so quickly.

There would be some hurdles to any deal.

Chelsea have brought in the likes of Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Antonio Rudiger and Willy Caballero this summer for a combined fee of £130million, but a host of departures which includes the transfers of Nemanja Matic, Nathan Ake and Asmir Begovic has left Cahill concerned about the depth of their squad.

Liverpool tried to sign Diego Costa in 2013 but had their £21million offer knocked back by Atletico.

But equally, and perhaps what is telling, for a player of Costa's calibre, there isn't exactly a glut of Europe's elite clubs beating his door down.

He admits that the club have little room for mistakes when it comes to signing a new striker in the last month of the window. His transfer is being held up by a transfer ban prohibiting Atletico from buying him until January.

Chelsea came in late and sealed the move for him. "We have obviously added to the squad with Alvaro [Morata] and that is a great addition to the squad, but you are always going to miss big players". He wants out and they want him out. A return makes total sense for both parties.
