Tottenham closing in on £35m deal for Ajax's Davinson Sanchez - sources”

The north Londoners were confident of landing the coup that would shatter their transfer record and produce the perfect response to their critics. He was instrumental in the Eredivisie club's run to the Europa League final, where they lost to Manchester United, and he was named the club's player of the year.

But Sanchez, who is also interesting Chelsea and Real Madrid, wants out and refused to play against Heracles, something Perez thinks is unacceptable.

According to a report on Telesport, Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino convinced Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez to move to his side after a conversation earlier this summer. It was Sanchez's first season in European football, but he was named Ajax's player of the season.

Sanchez began his career with Atletico Nacional in his native Colombia.

Ajax have done well to keep hold of the Colombian despite a host of clubs ready to swoop for the centre-back and he will once again form a partnership at the back with Matthijs de Ligt.

Bringing an element of verticality to play from the back is a trait many managers adore; if you can turn defence into attack with one ball, you're effective in all three thirds.

Danny Rose went public this week with his unhappiness at Spurs' approach to the transfer market and their wage structure, but the left-back would not need to Google his fellow England international. His reputation is already growing as one of the finest young defenders in Europe and it will only grow over the next year. We have a mission to win but doing so by taking another path to reach success. "Only with players 100% focused on the game".

Overmars has also confirmed to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf that Ajax have offered him an improved contract after just one successful year at the club. It's something Barcelona recognised with the powers that be at the Camp Nou said to have identified him as Gerard Pique's natural successor last summer.

Sanchez would prefer to resolve situations through good spatial and positional awareness, but a lingering weakness that can subside with experience is those lapses in concentration which has put him under scrutiny, but thanks to his electric pace it's often got him out of trouble.
