Strasburg ends scoreless streak, but Nats beat Dodgers 7-1”

Jackson, coming off his worst start as a National, allowed three home runs in the first two innings - one to Justin Turner, one to Yasiel Puig and one to Corey Seager.

After their fourth win in a row, 3-2 over the NL East-champion Washington Nationals on Saturday, the Dodgers cranked up the hip-hop in the clubhouse and spoke excitedly about being back on track toward making this a memorable year.

Rich Hill went 5 strong innings and allowed just one run off of one hit (HR), but only made 74 pitches.

Ryan Zimmerman laughed and jerked his head around to his right late Sunday night after he was asked what he took away from a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers that ended minutes earlier. But over the last week they did everything within their power to make sure that was no longer the case, as the Indians were replaced by the #WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWIndians (a self-coined, yet incredibly appropriate social media tag) as they put the final touches on a winning run that saw longest winning streak in American League history rewritten.

Brandon Kintzler, Ryan Madson and Sean Doolittle finished things off in their typical fashion, and thus the Nats salvaged one win this weekend and a six-game season series split with the Dodgers, the only club in the National League that owns a better record.

Bellinger gave the Dodgers a 1-0 lead as he led off the second with a solo homer to right off starter A.J. Cole (2-5), who lost for the fifth time in his last six starts.

"I didn't think it was going to stay in the yard", Strasburg said. His previous homer at Nationals Park was Aug. 16 against the Los Angeles Angels - a dry spell of 47 at-bats at home. He struck out seven without a walk in just his third start of the season. Anthony Rendon was 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk to pace the Nationals.

The good news with this game is we've gotten some value on the line since it opened up.

Washington Nationals' Daniel Murphy hits a single during the sixth inning of a baseball game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, in Washington.

The Dodgers' 1-0 lead survived that close call but not Ross Stripling's struggles in the sixth.

After spending time on the disabled list in recent weeks Bellinger has come back with a vengeance. Ryu has a WHIP of 1.34 with 109 strikeouts in 117 2/3 innings.

"I can be certain Rich will have that same kind of fire tomorrow morning", Roberts said late Friday night of Hill. "He really pitched a heck of a ballgame".

"The significance was we beat them two out of three out there and they beat two out of three here, and so we end up 3-3", Baker said.

And while Cleveland briefly became the center of the MLB universe, they were not alone putting forward bids to recapture the spotlight. Washington LHP Sean Doolittle also played for the Cavaliers. However, the Nationals are optimistic he will be ready for the playoffs. RHP Max Scherzer (14-6, 2.59) is slated to start Tuesday in Atlanta against Braves RHP Luiz Gohara (1-1, 6.30). Acquired from the Astros for Scott Kazmir in 2015, the Texas A&M alumnus tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts against the Phillies.
