Manchester United considering bid for Shakhtar Dontesk's City target Fred this month”

According to the information portal "Transfermarket", Fred's new agreement with "Shakhtar" is calculated up to 30 June 2023.

However, City boss Pep Guardiola has moved quickly, with the Manchester Evening News reporting they have tabled an opening offer.

Manchester United are also in the market for a Brazilian midfielder with a 1920s English name as they continue to monitor Arthur's situation at Gremio, according to the Daily Mail.

The youngster is valued at around £35m, with United and Chelsea both tracking his development with a view to a move at the start of the summer.

The piece noted Fred would not be able to feature for City in the UEFA Champions League if he were to arrive this month.

The Brazilian breaks up play, wins the ball back and is adept in possession too, meaning he knits together so many positive aspects of the team's play.

The pursuit of Fred makes sense as a result, as he shares many of the same traits as his compatriot.

The 32-year-old has played a key role for City this season, but it has been suggested that Guardiola is wary over the amount of games that the central midfielder has competed in since August.

The Red Devils are currently in second place in the Premier League table as they look to try and get as close to Manchester City as possible.

The two Manchester giants are locked in a battle to sign Alexis Sanchez, with United becoming the surprise favourites with the bookmakers in the last 24 hours.

"He's in the end of his career, so if next summer we buy a midfield player, it's not to improve our squad, it's to replace Michael Carrick". Nice will reportedly let the playmaker go if an offer of €40 million (£35 million) is made.

At 24, Fred is eight years younger than Fernandinho, who also enjoyed a spell at Shakhtar before moving to Manchester in 2013.

Though, that won't be the end of that as the club have since replied claiming that the fee still does not reach their valuation of the player.
